Jean Paul Gaultier – The Enfant Terrible of Fashion
Self‑taught, provocative, visionary — Jean Paul Gaultier established himself as one of the most singular couturiers of his generation. Born in 1952, he disrupted fashion codes from the very beginning, making freedom his true signature. His first collection in 1978 marked the start of a success story that never faded. The brand embodies a fashion without convention. Each runway show became a spectacle in its own right, a stage where men and women reinvented themselves. The corset worn as outerwear, the striped marinière, the skirt for men — these iconic pieces propelled Jean Paul Gaultier far beyond French borders.
A Legacy of Audacity and Legitimacy
The Maison has crossed decades without ever betraying its DNA. The enfant terrible of fashion transformed every show into a performance, elevating the brand to the rank of international reference. Its ready‑to‑wear line, haute couture shows, collaborations and repeated successes have established the Maison as a true fashion institution. The corset, one of its most emblematic pieces, remains one of the most cited references in the history of women’s clothing. Jean Paul Gaultier dressed women differently — and men too — breaking conventions with humor and intelligence.
Fragrances That Became Icons
The Jean Paul Gaultier fragrance line is now essential. “Le Male,” created for men, and “Classique,” created for women, revolutionized the world of perfumery. Their bottles — a masculine torso for Le Male, a feminine bust for Classique — are works of art in themselves. Each eau de parfum and eau de toilette in the Le Male or Classique collections tells a story. The bottle alone has become a visual symbol, an instant of seduction even before the first breath. These emblematic creations show how a perfume can become a true icon, and how each Jean Paul Gaultier fragrance continues to impose its style in the olfactory world.
Jean Paul Gaultier x Duran Lantink
The new permanent artistic director of Maison Jean Paul Gaultier is Duran Lantink, a Dutch designer known for his bold, sustainable and deeply free approach to fashion — perfectly aligned with Gaultier’s transgressive spirit. His appointment marks the end of the guest‑designer era and opens a new creative chapter for the Maison. Winner of several prestigious awards, including the Karl Lagerfeld Prize at the 2024 LVMH Prize, Lantink has established himself as a visionary figure, blending upcycling, radical aesthetics and playful energy. Jean Paul Gaultier himself sees in him the spirit and audacity of his own beginnings, calling him a “new enfant terrible of fashion.”
His first ready‑to‑wear collection for the Maison will be unveiled during the September 2025 Women’s Fashion Week, followed by his first couture collection in January 2026.
